Particle Unstable Light Nuclei

Exotic nuclei produced in fragmentation reactions can be used to study nuclei beyond the drip lines. The level structure of these nuclei yields information about disappearing, shifting and emerging shells along the driplines. Light nuclei beyond the neutron dripline (for example He, Li, and Be) and the proton dripline (for example N and F) are used to establish the vanishing of the N = 8 and Z ...

Quasi-Deuteron Configurations in odd-odd N=Z nuclei

The isovector M1 transitions between low-lying T=1 and T=0 states in oddodd N=Z nuclei are analyzed. Simple analytical expressions for M1 transition strengths are derived within a single-j-shell approximation for both j = l+1/2 and j = l − 1/2 cases. The large B(M1) values for the j = l + 1/2 case are attributed to quasi-deuteron configurations. The B(M1) values for the j = l − 1/2 case are fou...

Light Nuclei as Quantized Skyrmions

We consider the rigid body quantization of Skyrmions with topological charges 1 to 8, as approximated by the rational map ansatz. Novel, general expressions for the elements of the inertia tensors, in terms of the approximating rational map, are presented and are used to determine the kinetic energy contribution to the total energy of the ground and excited states of the quantized Skyrmions. Ou...

Coulomb dissociation of light nuclei

We present an alternative theoretical formulation of the Coulomb dissociation process. We apply the formalism to the deuteron as an example of a weakly bound two-body composite nucleus with a charged core and a neutral valence particle and for which exclusive experimental data exist in an appropriate kinematical regime. The theoretical scheme assumes that the projectile excitation is predominan...

Energy levels of light nuclei.

An evaluation of A = 11–12 was published in Nuclear Physics A336 (1980), p. 1. This version of A = 11 differs from the published version in that we have corrected some errors discovered after the article went to press. Figures and introductory tables have been omitted from this manuscript. Reference key numbers have been changed to the NNDC/TUNL format. (References closed July 1, 1979) The orig...
